Early Beginnings (1842)
The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion traces its origins to 1842 when the first Anglican missionaries arrived in Badagry, Lagos. The CMS played a pivotal role in establishing Anglican presence across Nigeria.
Autonomy Achieved (1979)
On February 24, 1979, the Church of Nigeria became an autonomous province within the Anglican Communion, with the Most Rev. Timothy Olufosoye as its first Archbishop and Primate of All Nigeria.
Rapid Growth
From its humble beginnings, the Church has grown to become the second-largest Anglican province in the world, with over 18 million members. It currently consists of 14 ecclesiastical provinces and 176 dioceses across Nigeria.
Current Leadership
The Church is led by the Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba as the current Archbishop, Metropolitan, and Primate of All Nigeria. It maintains orthodox Anglican traditions while contextualizing its ministry to Nigerian culture and needs.
